For more than 30 years, ACTS Retirement-Life Communities, Inc. has kept focused and faithful to our shared vision of what retirement living can and should be... always refining it to meet new challenges, but remaining steadfast to its abiding commitment: to offer residents a more complete, more rewarding, more secure retirement lifestyle.

ACTS Retirement-Life Communities was incorporated in 1971 as a not-for-profit, faith-based suburban Philadelphia organization created to meet the needs of seniors. At that time, the pastor of the Church, Reverend Richard S. Coons, had visited members of his congregation who were in a nursing home, living in conditions that he felt were inappropriate and unacceptable. He concluded that, "There has to be a better way."

With the early vision of creating "a better way," The Rev. Richard Coons shared his story with the leadership of his congregation. The idea was to provide independent living with a quality skilled health care environment to be available if it was ever needed. Using their own resources and talents, this first group of men built the first part of our first community which today we call Fort Washington Estates.

That first community opened in 1972. The vision has continued to grow wherein today there are more than 7,800 residents and 5,600 employees in 18 ACTS communities. Today, ACTS Retirement-Life Communities®, Inc. is the largest not-for-profit builder, owner and manager of continuing care retirement communities in the United States. The ongoing mission of meeting the needs of residents and employees in a spirit of Loving-Kindness continues to propel the corporation forward in its ongoing quest for excellence, in keeping with its spiritual roots.
