Summary Statement:

Attends to the medical and emotional needs of the Independent Living Residential Community.

Essential Job Functions

• Maintains open line of communication with Executive Director, Nursing Home Administrator (NHA), Director of Nursing (DON), Director of Resident Nursing, Resident RN Supervisor, and other department heads.
• Attends all meetings where attendance is requested by the Director of Resident Nursing.
• Maintains a program of health care for the resident in accordance with the policies of ACTS, including giving injections, treatments and checking vital signs.
• Responds to medical and emotional needs of the residents in the community/personnel care unit and takes appropriate action.
• Responds to emergency calls for residents, employees and visitors and takes appropriate action. Calls ambulance or other appropriate authority whenever a medical emergency occurs.
• Promotes self care and independent living.
• Identifies safety hazards and emergency situations and initiates corrective action immediately.
• Participates in the training and supervision of nursing assistants in the daily operation of the PCU.
• Ensures that personnel follow established infection control procedures.
• Maintains the confidentially of all resident care information.
• Transports resident using wheelchair or assist residents to walk.
• Assists physician with clinic visits.
• Conducts annual interviews in apartments.
• Conducts office hours with residents and staff as determined by Director of Resident Nursing.
• Participates in flex meal evaluations and follow up.
• Reviews lab results and notifies physician as needed
• Completed paperwork for transfers to and from the facility.
• Assesses all residents who return to apartment from a higher level of care.
• Dispenses and monitors resident sick tray service.
• Performs other duties as assigned.

Job Requirements

Critical Skills and Knowledge Necessary

• Comprehensive knowledge of State & Federal Guidelines governing personal care wing
• Knowledge of principles of nursing care and first aid and current assessment skills, preferably in Geriatric Nursing.
• Able to communicate effectively
• Able to make independent decisions
• Must possess the ability to deal tactfully with personnel, residents, family members, visitors, government agencies/personnel and the general public

The critical skills and knowledge required to successfully perform the functions of the position are normally obtained thru the completion of a of state approved Licensed Practical Nurse or Registered Nurse Program, current state Licensed Practical Nurse or Registered Nurse license, current or eligible for certification in Cardia/Pulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) and Intravenous Therapy, and a minimum of one year work experience with the geriatric health care field.

Physical Demands

• Lifting 50 pounds and carrying 10 pounds occasionally (weights greater than 50 pounds require assistance from co-worker or use of lifting devices)
• Walking frequently with occasional standing and sitting
• Pushing and pulling up to 50 pounds occasionally
• Climbing stairs occasionally
• Bending, squatting and kneeling occasionally
• Reaching occasionally from below knees to above shoulders
