Summary Statement:

Under general supervision of the Director of Nursing, the Staffing Coordinator will formulate a nursing schedule which incorporates the community’s staffing standards and provides a fair and comprehensive working schedule for all nursing personnel.

Essential Job Functions

• Creates the monthly work schedule for all nursing personnel in the healthcare center.
• Monitors the schedule daily for shift needs.
• Fills vacant shifts through negotiations with part time, pool and full time staff.
• Contacts agencies to fill openings when all other efforts fail.
• Generates a daily assignment list for nursing employees.
• Maintains a current "needs list” for in-house posting and agency notification.
• Tracks holiday assignments.
• Tracks absenteeism, tardiness, and time clock punches for missed punches or early clock outs. Reports problems to the DON.
• Schedules make-up shifts.
• Takes phone calls for call outs and finds replacements when required.
• Keeps telephone lists of nursing personnel up to date.
• Provides clerical support to the Administrator and Director of Nursing.
• Serves as back up on time recording software and medical supply inventory software.
• May perform other duties as assigned.

Job Requirements

Critical Skills and Knowledge Necessary

• Basic knowledge of computer, especially word processing and spreadsheet software
• Able to communicate effectively in English both verbally and in writing
• Able to follow direction and ask questions appropriately
• Ability to cooperate and interact with all personnel in the healthcare center

The critical skills and knowledge required to successfully perform the functions of the position are normally obtained thru the completion of a high school education and a minimum of five years post high school diploma experience in addition to at least six months on the job training.
